There was frantic diplomatic activity this week as UK and EU negotiators met in Brussels. Stephen Barclay, the Brexit Secretary, was there to sound out Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief negotiator, on possible ways out of the current impasse.
Officially this was a quiet week, but behind the scenes feverish discussions were happening in London and Brussels as both sides tried to find a way through the current political impasse and what it means if a no-deal Brexit happens.
This week was the one where all the different Brexit roads collided in the shape of the vote on the withdrawal deal negotiated between the UK and the EU and a no confidence vote in the British government.
It has been a quiet week in Brussels as most EU officials have already headed home for Christmas. However, they have been keeping a keen eye on the ongoing parliamentary process in the United Kingdom which will ultimately decide the final result of the Brexit process.
